More than 70 voices, one room, and a clear message: this community cares deeply about the future of our leisure venue, Adelaide Hills Recreation Centre.

At an event that exceeded all expectations, Adelaide Hills Recreation Centre became the beating heart of the town as passionate members gathered for a highly anticipated Community Network Forum (CNF).

What was planned as a simple opportunity for feedback quickly became something bigger – a powerful show of collaboration and communal spirit.

Held in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, the forum allowed members to take the floor, ask questions and engage directly with the team behind our operations. The turnout exceeded expectations, highlighting patrons’ enthusiasm and commitment to shaping the future of their local recreation hub.

“This level of turnout speaks volumes”, said Nathan Hart, our Venue Manager. “It shows how invested our patrons are in the role our venue plays in their everyday lives.”

From discussions on programs to future opportunities, the conversation was honest, constructive and collaborative, while also celebrating recent achievements and milestones. Furthermore, it provided a space for diverse and underrepresented community voices to be heard.

Adding weight to the evening was the strong show of support from local leadership. The Mayor, David Leech and members of the Mount Barker Council were in attendance, reinforcing our venue's importance as a cornerstone of Adelaide Hills.

In an engaging address, the Mayor spoke about the vital role of leisure venues in supporting healthier lifestyles and more resilient communities.

“Adelaide Hills Recreation Centre provides a place for people to belong. Hearing directly from the community is essential - today proves that Community Network Forums can enhance lives.”

“It feels good to know our opinions matter,” one member shared after the session. “You can see that the team aren’t only ticking a box; they actually want to improve things for us.”

The success of the event reflects the strong relationship between our team and our members. It sets a positive tone for future engagement and is a testament to what can be achieved when local government, service providers and the community come together with a shared purpose at our venue.

If this turnout is any indication, the future of our Adelaide Hills Recreation Centre is in good hands, with community leading the way.
